Dominick Leonardo

Dominick Leonardo, 93, of White Oak, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 16, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born January 30, 1920 in Ellwood City, the son of the late Antonio and Anna Carrera Leonardo. He was a 1938 graduate of McKeesport High School. Mr. Leonardo was a WWII Army Veteran and served as a aircraft mechanic in the 94th Bomb Group in the 333rd Bomb Squad in England. He received the EAME Ribbon with Distinguished Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal. In 1995, he traveled to England with fellow Squadron member for the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII. Following is return to civilian life, Mr. Leonardo was employed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Later in his career, he worked for the Veterans Administration Pittsburgh office and retired in 1986. He is survived by his sister, Helen Checca of White Oak, and brother, Rudolph Leonardo of Gamber, MD, and was beloved by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Patsy and Atillio Leonardo and sister, Rose Leonardo Brletic. There is no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, White Oak on Wednesday March 20, at 1:00 PM with The Rev. Stephen Chervenak, officiating. (Everyone please meet at the church). Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 1-800-822 6344.
