Alfredo Alaysa “Big Fred” Calub, Sr., 53, of North Huntingdon, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, November 8, 2025. He was born on June 21, 1972, in Manila, Philippines, and was the son of the late Antonio Calub, Sr., and Visitacion (Alaysa) Calub Maxwell, and was the stepson of the late Robert Lee Maxwell. Alfredo was a proud mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and had previously served as an accountant for DoubleTree by Hilton in Monroeville. He attended Praise Assembly Church in North Versailles, and was an active member of Boy Scouts Troop 257 in Irwin. He was also the former treasurer for The Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh. He was known for his generous spirit and joyful personality, “Big Fred” was a friend to everyone he met, and considered himself the unofficial mayor and mascot of Greensburg. He had a lifelong love of basketball, playing in church leagues, Pittsburgh leagues, and Norwin leagues. He was also passionate about cooking, and his famous egg rolls, adobo, and pancit were always a hit with family and friends. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Alfredo was a proud “baseball dad,” coached flag football, and served as an official for his daughter’s swim team. He had a gift for turning anything into a game and was truly a big kid at heart. He was an adoring Grandfather, who was affectionately known as "Lolo". As a caregiver and partner, he exemplified love, patience, and selflessness always willing to help anyone in need, especially his wife, Michelle in recent years. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Michelle Mendenhall; daughter, Cailin (Josh Monzo) Calub; sons, Alfredo "Freddy" Calub, Jr., and Antonio "Tony" Calub; granddaughter, Maven Monzo; siblings, Gloria Regaya, Teresita, Maragarita, Lucia, Roberto, Joel and Abraham (Belen) Calub, nieces, Abigale Calub, and Jennifer (Tony) Norris; great-nephew and niece, Iverson and Kenzie; mother-in-law, Marie Cindric and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and extended family throughout the United States and The Philippines. In addition to his father and step-father, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Antonio, Armando, Carlos, and Caesar. Friends are welcome on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 10:00 am in the funeral home chapel with Pastor John Tirpak, officiating.
