It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Donna Juliette Clarke on July 4th, 2026 at Kadima at Mt. Lebanon. She was born January 26th, 1958 in Pittsburgh and was the daughter of the late Constance M. and E. Philip Hruska. She spent the majority of her life in Elizabeth Township but also lived on her farm in Hookstown for many years. Donna was a talented artist, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Edinboro University in 1982 and the family have pieces of her artwork in their homes. She loved all animals, starting as a toddler with her first cat Sooty, to rehabbing injured birds and a baby rabbit as a young child, had a pet tarantula in her late teens, and numerous cats and dogs throughout her life, up to her current beloved Maine Coon cat Sky. Donna was an avid gardener, surrounding herself with beautiful flowers both inside and outside her homes. She loved her country, proudly flying the American flag, and was even known to place small flags in the yards of family when visiting. She spent many years serving others, both as a waitress and bartender who was a favorite of customers, and when family members became ill. She was known for making others laugh during dark times, was able to see beauty that others overlooked, and never let time or norms control her. Donna recently said, “Whatever happens, please don’t forget me” and it can undoubtedly be stated that whoever met her will never forget her. Whether she made you laugh, cry, or get angry, Donna was truly one of a kind. She is survived by her devoted husband of 24 years, Stephan J. Clarke, who is a retired veteran of the United States Coast Guard, her sisters Debbie Babb (Andy), and Diane Muka (David), sister-in-law Marta Hruska, a stepdaughter Stephanie Adams (Zachary), grandchildren Luke, Shay, and Westly, nieces Eden and Kati, nephew Eric and others too numerous to mention by name. She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas D. Hruska, who died September 24th, 2011. To honor Donna’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private interment at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with a memorial service to follow at a later time. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Humane World for Animals, or an animal shelter of your choice. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Kadima at Mt. Lebanon for their compassion and taking such good care of Donna over the past few months. We would also like to thank Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory for their support and professionalism during this difficult time. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield, Boston, Elizabeth Township (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, Director. Condolences may be made at GilbertFuneralHomeandCrematory.com
