Eugene J. Charney, 88, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Wednesday November 25, 2020. He was born March 2, 1932 in Glassport and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Churay) Charney. He was the husband of the late Marilyn Ruth (Overand) Charney who passed away November 25, 2005. Eugene was a member of St. Michael Parish in Elizabeth Township and was retired from Westinghouse Bettis Atomic Plant in West Mifflin. He was a US Navy Veteran serving on the USS Vulcan. Eugene loved music, photography, travel, and fixing things. He is survived by his daughters, Beth Ann (Patrick) Skinner of Valentia, Diane M. (Thomas) McGarr of Vatavia, IL, Susan E. (Brian) Evanchak of North Huntingdon, and Amy L. Charney of Nashville, TN, grandchildren, Christian and Ethan Skinner, Autumn, Indigo, River, and Desert McGarr, Zachary and Hanna Evanchak, and Robert and Meredith Monsour and nieces and nephews. Private visitation took place Saturday November 28, 2020 at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, Director. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Michael Parish with The Rev. Thomas Wagner, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank at 412-460-3663 or the Alzheimer's Association of Pittsburgh at 412-261-5040.
