Gwendolyn Gilbert Bitzer Desarno

Gwendolyn Gilbert Bitzer DeSarno, 95, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. She was born April 16, 1927, in Philadelphia and was the daughter of the late Dwight McElhinney and the late Gwendolyn (Hunsberger) McElhinney. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. DeSarno who passed away June 15, 1989. Gwendolyn was a member of Linway United Presbyterian Church, North Versailles, and the Italian Sons and Daughters of America. She loved gardening, cooking, and helping others. Gwendolyn was a private caregiver until the age of 87. She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (Richard) Resnick of Irwin and Marsha L. Bitzer of North Huntingdon, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Anna May Foster and brothers, Dwight and Arthur McElhinney. Friends are welcome Wednesday, March 1, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak. (412) 672-6322.
