James Joseph "Jim" Barno, 68, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026. He was the son of the late James Emory and Louella Jean (Piccardo) Barno. Upon graduation from Elizabeth Forward High School, Jim obtained his Associate Degree of the Sciences from CCAC, his Bachelor's Degree of the Arts and his BA in Anthropology from California University of Pennsylvania. Jim worked numerous jobs through his life, starting out as a truck driver, then he was a machinist for Norfolk Southern Railroads, a locomotive mechanic for Damian Hantz Locomotive Service and a mechanic at Union Railroad. He was a proud member of The Society of Pennsylvania Anthropology, the current president of The Westmoreland Archaeological Society Chapter 23, he started the Westmoreland Archaeology Society Lab/Research Library in Elizabeth, PA and had received the Archey Award from The Society of Pennsylvania Archaeology in 2019. Jim also was a volunteer at The Carnegie Museum Annex. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children, Jim (Ashley) Barno, Jennifer (Jeffery) Bonievich, and Jeffrey (Olya) Barno; grandchildren, Sophia, Blake, Jeffrey, Mariea, Johnathan, Joseph, Anthony and Danny; great-grandchild, Adryan; longtime companion and friend, Bonnie Milanak; siblings, Tammy (Ron) Perhach, David (Lisa) Barno, Maria (Ron) Roepke, and Danny (Alyssa) Barno; the mother of his children, Jeanne Holl; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
