James Carl Durst, Jr.

James Carl Durst, Jr., 75, of Greensburg passed away peacefully at home Sunday, August 16, 2026 surrounded by family. He was born in Connellsville, April 7, 1951 to the late James Carl Durst, Sr., and the late Mary (Minerd) Durst. He leaves behind his loving life partner and best friend of more than 3 decades, Donna J. Brown; his son, Nathan (Tina) Durst; his bonus sons, Justen (Liz) Mullen, and Brandon Mullen. Jim was also a proud grandfather to 5 grandchildren, Amelia, Rory, & Charlotte Durst, and Makayla & Ryan Mullen - all whom brought him immense joy. Nothing could bring a smile to his face faster than seeing pictures, celebrating milestones, or a new accomplishment (those were his best days ever). Jim is also survived by his brother, John (Daria) Durst, along with extended family members and friends who will miss his deeply.

After a successful career as an engineer at Westinghouse, Jim and Donna owned and operated B&D Nursery and Greenhouse for 30 years. His hard work, dedication, and love of growing things reflected the kinds of man he was; taking great pride in raising each plant from seeds. Through his work, he cultivated long-lasting friendships within the community. Jim always had time for conversation, whether sharing knowledge, gathering recipes, or debating gardening myths. He never met a stranger in the greenhouse - only fellow gardeners or future friends.

Jim will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet generosity, and fierce devotion to family. He was never one to sit on the fence - he held strong opinions and defended them with passion, so you always knew where you stood with him. He found joy in simple pleasures too; spending time with those he loved, a cold beer, and the work that was his passion.

In keeping with his wishes for a peaceful and private departure, the family is honoring his request that there will be no viewing or public services. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Commonwealth Hospice for their compassionate care and support, with a special thanks to Liz, Missy, and Christy.
