John George Schmidt, 73, of White Oak, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021. He was born April 23, 1948 in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late John Lawrence and Ruth Viola (Lutz) Schmidt. John was a retired Industrial Specialist for the Department of Defense and had also worked for the 911 Airbase at Pittsburgh International Airport. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in Vietnam with the US Army. For his service, he received the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a member of Vietnam Veteran's Inc, Pittsburgh Chapter, DAV Col. S. D. Foster # 76 and the NRA. John loved riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Suzanne Mary (Daerr) Schmidt, daughter, Kim Nguyen of Memphis, TN, and Carrie (Chris) Beighley of Sarver, son, Brent Schmidt of Pleasant Hills, step-sons, John (Tammy) Hayden of Boston and Billy Hayden of Glassport, step-daughters, Danette (Ricky) Lees of Glassport and Christine (Rob) Cochran of Avonmore, grandchildren, Don and Donna Nguyen, Owen and Reid Beighley, Abby Schmidt, Cory Apel, Cody Hayden, Jessica Steiner, Alex Kalbrenner, Cassie Augustine, Kenna Hayden, Sage and Colton Koett, Preston Chrisman and Amanda Turkovic, and 7 great-grandchildren. Friends are welcome Tuesday August 17, 2021 from 6-8 pm and Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.,1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak.
