Mary Jean "Sandy" Young

Mary Jean "Sandy" Young, 94, of White Oak, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020. She was born August 8, 1925 in Port Chester, NY, and was the daughter of the late Donald and Marie (Sichel) Walter. She was the wife of the late George Fleming Young, Jr., who passed away June 29, 2009. Mary Jean was a member of Mary, Mother of God Church- St. Angela Parish in White Oak and the Clairton AARP. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth A. (Christopher) Abernethy of University Place, FL, Claudia Jean (Francis) Murphy of Annapolis, MD, FL, George F. "Geff" Young, III, of Pittsburgh, and Jennifer M. Young of Pittsburgh, sister, Katherine Walter of Pleasantville, NY, grandchildren, Peter M. Abernethy, Brooke S. Braun, Matthew F. Murphy, Timothy P. Murphy and Michael J. Ohgren, great-grandchildren, Ariella, Rex, Laurel and Finn Murphy, and Maxon and Lincoln Braun, son-in-law, John Ohgren of Reston, VA, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Ohgren and brother, John D. Walter. There is no visitation. Graveside service took place Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Elizabeth Township. The Rev. Vincent P. Velas, officiated.
