Obituary

Rita Lucille Kelly, 94, passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2026, surrounded by the love she spent a lifetime building. Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on December 6, 1931, to Jacob and Kathryn Woll, Rita lived most of her life in the community she cherished, before moving to Florida in 2018 to be closer to her daughters.

A graduate of Divine Redeemer Academy, Rita was a devoted homemaker whose greatest passion was her children. She poured herself into family life with warmth, humor, and an unshakable sense of purpose. A woman of deep Catholic faith, she was a longtime, faithful member of St. Pius V Parish in McKeesport, where she also belonged to the Christian Mothers organization.

Those who knew Rita knew her laugh. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a rare gift for laughing at herself — the kind of lightness that put everyone around her at ease and made ordinary moments memorable.

Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Bernard P. Kelly, who passed away November 14, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sister Maureen Sundin. Her sister Barbara Chontos followed her the very next day.

She is survived by her four children: Greg Kelly and his wife Bonnie, Karen Lash, Kevin Kelly, and Ruthann Miljus and her husband Paul; her sister Donna Sulenski; and a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Rita was blessed with six grandchildren: Jacob Lash and his wife April, Mark Kelly and his wife Heather, Emily Adler and her husband Noah, Elizabeth Somsak, Amber Vasquez, and Jonathan Miljus and his wife Sachiko.

She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren and had the joy of meeting each one: Violet Adler, Quinn Kelly, Sidney Kelly, Serena Star, Michael Lash, Robert Somsak, and Emma Lash.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Mary Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi Worship Site (formerly St. Mary Czestochowa), 2515 Versailles Ave., McKeesport, PA 15132. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Duquesne, PA. A celebration of a life well lived will be held at Edgewood Country Club, 100 Churchill Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, following interment. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director. Condolences may be made at GilbertFuneralHomeandCrematory.com

“In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.

I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again

and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

— John 14:2–3
