Scott "Scooter" Bethem

November 5, 1963 — February 11, 2021

Scott "Scooter" Bethem, 57, of Allenport, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh due to complications from a stroke. He was born November 5, 1963 in Charleroi and was the son of Connie (Atkins) Bethem of Belle Vernon and the late Gordon Bethem. He was a 1981 graduate of Belle Vernon Area High School where he studied carpentry at Vo-Tech. Scott had a strong work ethic which led him to different jobs over his lifetime including grocery stock boy, carpet layer, construction worker and factory maintenance man. He spent 25 years at Guardian Glass, 7 years at Ferro Corp, and most recently worked at Perryman Brothers. Scott spent several years as a volunteer at the Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Co, where he held several line offices including Chief. He had a wicked sense of humor and enjoyed a good, or bad, practical joke. He loved to cook and garden and would share his meals with anyone interested. Scott also enjoyed working around his house and spending time with his dogs, family and friends. Nothing was more important to him than his family, which was most evident with his relationship with his granddaughter. In addition to his mother, Scott is survived by his wife of 32 years, Darlene (Perisich) Bethem, daughter, Meghan (Aaron Beck) Bethem, granddaughter, Beatrix Beck, sisters, Gay Bethem and Leann (John Adams) Watkins, nephew, Aaron (Stephanie) Lenhart, fur kids, Joe and Charlie, and several relatives and friends. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and fur kids, Duke and Riley. Scott's passing has left a giant hole in the hearts of all who knew him. At his request there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, make a memorial donation to your local fire department or animal shelter. And please consider as your final gift, being an organ donor. The family would like to thank the staff of Mercy Hospital's Unit 8A Medical ICU and the C.O.R.E. program for their compassion and professionalism. Arrangements are by Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, Elizabeth Township.(412)751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, director.
