Elizabeth Township

On a beautiful fall day, Sherry Shelton, age 82 of Elizabeth Township passed away in the early hours of November 4, 2026. She was born in Clairton on April 12, 1944, the daughter of Virgil Shelton and Mollie (Andrew) Lang, and stepdaughter of the loving Frank Lang. She was the 9th of 11 children, and learned early about hard work, responsibility, and perseverance. Sherry graduated from Elizabeth Forward High School and had three children. She was employed as a laborer for U.S. Steel at Clairton Works and remained a proud U.S. Steelworker until her retirement. She enjoyed staying at home with her dogs and cats and having so many family members over, especially in the summer, when her laughter would be heard across the yard as everyone enjoyed a backyard fire with snacks and drinks. She is a mother to her beloved daughters Roxanne (Keith) Coltogirone, Sandra (Brook) Yacura and Jonette Yacura. Gram to her beloved grandchildren Kortney (John) Hartman, Molly (Christopher) McBride, Samantha (Anthony) Casto, Hunter (Sidney) Casto and Dakota (Allison) Coltogirone. GG to her beloved great-grandchildren Riley, Rhyan, Talon, Maya, Maverick, Matteo, Bailey and Clara. She is survived by her brother Charles (Joan) Lang and preceded in death by her parents, stepparent, and her brothers Merle, Denny, Bobby, Richard and David as well as her sisters Doris, Barbara, Donna and Linda. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the team at Jefferson Hospital, especially the oncology nurses, who found ways to make her laugh through difficult diagnoses and hospital stays. The family also offers a grateful Thank You to the AHN hospice team, whose daily care and support helped honor Sherry’s wish to spend her final days peacefully in the comfort of her own home. There will be no public services. Sherry will share a resting place at Mt. Vernon Cemetery with her beloved dog, Max. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sherry’s memory to the ASPCA at https://secure.aspca.org/donate/memorial, using the email Sandra.Yacura@gmail.com for the memorial notification.
