Theodore Michael "Ted" Salka, Sr., 96, of Bunola passed away Friday, May 8, 2026. Born at home in Bunola on June 19, 1929, he was the son of the late John F. and Sophie M. (Fetchen) Salka. Ted proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. A hardworking and dedicated man, he was employed by and retired from the Port Authority of Allegheny County in West Mifflin. In addition to his career there, Ted and his brother-in-law, Carl Folk, Sr., owned and operated Allegheny Landscaping for many years. Ted was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting at his cabin in Elk County. He was also a proud member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association "ATA" and was passionate about trap shooting. He competed for many years, earning numerous awards throughout his career, and achieved the honor of winning a state championship. Ted is survived by his sons, Theodore (Debbie) Salka, Jr., Rod (the late Shelley) Salka, James Salka, and Robert (Jackie) Salka; grandchildren, Rod Salka, Jr., Abbie Salka Gray, Sydney Salka, Kylie Salka, and Taylor Salka Bacci; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Camila Salka, and James Gray; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Ted is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Folk) Salka, who passed away November 16, 1999; as well as all of his siblings - 6 brothers, and 5 sisters, Michael, Joseph, Stanley "Tush", Clarence, Walter "Buck", Frank, Mary Lewis, Helen Salka, Clare Krauss, and Agnes "Sissy" Leskus.
Friends are welcome Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 6028 Smithfield Street, Boston, PA 15135. (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, Samantha D. Murphy, directors. Funeral Service will take place Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 10:00am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jeff Lytle officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Round Hill Cemetery.
