Wayne Henry Nelson

Wayne Henry Nelson, 86, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022. He was born July 11, 1936 in McKeesport and was the son of the late John Henry and Florence (Wallace) Nelson. Wayne served in the US Army as a Tank Driver from 1959 - 1962 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He worked as a Steel Worker for Irvin Works for many years leading up to retirement. He avid fisherman and hunter with his long time friend, John Laska and other friends. Wayne and his wife enjoyed "glamping" for the past 40+ years. Wayne is survived by his wife of 64 years, Geraldine (Papp) Nelson; daughter, who he had a wonderful Christian relationship with, Michelle Sowerby of Suffolk, VA; granddaughter, Amanda Sowerby; great-grandsons, Eric Randall & Zachary Wayne; sister, Norma Nelson of Chicago, IL; beloved pet, Chelsey; many nieces and nephews, and so many other loving family & friends. In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Nelson; and his sister, Louise Akerberg. There is no visitation. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 6028 Smithfield Street, Elizabeth Township. (412) 751-5000 Drew J. Gilbert, director. Interment with Military Honors will take place at the Round Hill Cemetery on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 10:00 am. EVERYONE IN ATTENDANCE, PLEASE MEET AT THE GRAVESITE.
