Our Beginning

Gilbert Funeral Home History Photo

In 1989, Drew J. Gilbert, a first generation Funeral Director, purchased the building at 6028 Smithfield Street, in the Boston section of Elizabeth Twp., that is now the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.

This beautifully restored structure was originally the home of the late Mr. Cassius M. C. Harper, a prominent brick manufacturer and was built in the 1880's. Mr. Harper's factory was located along the Youghiogheny River within site of his new home. The house was built with brick from his factory.

Restoring this elegant century old building included refinishing the Red Oak woodwork and pocket doors, and the addition of beautiful stained glass windows and crystal chandeliers that create a comfortable and calming home-like atmosphere.

In 1997, a state-of-art crematory was installed inside the funeral home and with the increase in families choosing cremation, a second crematory was added in 2007.

The funeral home and crematory being in a single location provides exceptional care and convenience at a time when you need it the most. And most importantly, "Your loved one never leaves our care."

In 2016, Drew purchased the building at 1638 Lincoln Way, in White Oak, which is supervised by his oldest son and second generation Funeral Director, Troy J. Gilbert.
